DUDE WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN: REMEMBER MTV VJ JESSE

Winner of the MTV’s Wanna Be VJ competition back in 1999 , Jesse Camp has resurfaced. The MTV VJ had a short career on MTV, then he disappeared. The last time he was seen publicly was when he invaded the TRL finale in 2008. Abracadabra he has appeared.

Now 34 years old Jesse stopped by the Free the Nipple event, which was hosted by Russell Simmons. I hope this means he is making a return to hosting. There aren’t any shows to host MTV anymore, but I think he would be a great fit for Fuse TV or even Revolt. Bring Jesse Back!

The first batch will be called Lazy Sunday, based on the Chris Parnell and Andy Samberg  skit. It’s made of vanilla cake batter ice cream, with pieces of yellow and chocolate cupcake and chocolate frosting swirls.

The second batch is Gilly’s Catastrophic Crunch, inspired by Kristin Wiig’s character Gilly. It’s made with chocolate ice cream with almonds covered in fudge, caramel clusters and marshmallow swirls.

Why is Ben and Jerry doing this? Well folks these new ice cream batches were created in honor of SNL celebrating their 40th anniversary. Get it while supplies last.

NO WAY: DISNEY ACTRESS TO PLAY AALIYAH

UPDATE: THE AALIYAH MOVIE WILL BE PRODUCED BY AALIYAH PRODUCTIONS AND AIRED ON THE LIFETIME NETWORK. NO WORD ON WHY VH1 WILL NO LONGER BE APART OF THIS PROJECT.

1INAMILLION

Rumor has it that the Disney actress Zendaya will be our Aaliyah in the VH1 Biopic One in a Million. Can she play Aaliyah? I say no. Only because she is 17 years old. A role like this can make or break you. Zendaya is doing so well right now. If she portrays an artist that is still loved by many and she knows little about, and then if she croaks, Zendaya will never live this down. You know VH1 is going to repeat the hell out of this movie. Don’t do it Zendaya.

OK I get she is young, beautiful and she sings and dances, but a lot of people fit those characteristics.

If I had to pick someone to play Aaliyah I would pick Keisha Chante. She is a co-host on 106 & Park

She has all of the traits needed to play Aaliyah , this would be a major career break for her and if she does not do well, she can go back to 106 & Park with no worries. That show moves fast and people forget quickly. Remember when Keisha was cursed at by August Alsina? Me neither. See things happen and life goes on, especially on a daily music video countdown show like 106&Park. Back to playing Aaliyah, Keisha even looks similar to our beloved Aaliyah. Ok she may not be an actress, that’s fine she can  be trained.

Zendaya is not our Aaliyah, Keisha is. Now who’s with me?

REMEMBERING CASEY KASEM

After a long battle with Parkinson’s disease the voice of radio Casey Kasem has passed away. Kasem’s daughter announced her dads death via twitter.

“Early this Father’s Day morning, our dad Casey Kasem passed away surrounded by family and friends.”

Kasem’s daughter and his current wife Jean were feuding over Kasem’s well being. A judge order a visitation agreement with Kasem’s kids, due to Jean blocking them from seeing their father.

Overall Kasem was a great talent and he has contributed lots to the entertainment world. He lent his voice to the hit cartoon Scooby Doo, he played the voice of Shaggy. His contributions will live on forever.

I hop his family can find some peace during their bereavement.

LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING: HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAAAAARY

I want to wish a very happy belated birthday to the actress Marla Gibbs. Born on June 14, 1931 Marla is 83 years young.

Marla is best know for her role and Florence the maid in The Jefferson’s and Mary in 227. Her most recent role was in the syndicated TV series The First Family. Marla is still going strong.

LET ME SEE YOU TOP THAT: ALEX TREBEK SETS A RECORD

This is JEOPARDY!

Alex Trebek is a household name. The Jeopardy game show host has set a record  for the most episodes ever hosted by the same presenter. On Friday , June 13th Alex hosted his 6,829th episode of Jeopardy. I guess that breaks the Friday the 13th superstition. Good things can happen on that day.

Alex was hired to host the hit game show in 1984. Talk about job stability. Alex is honored to have earned the Guinness Book of World Record’s title, but is aware that someone can break his record if given the opportunity to host a hit show. I doubt that will ever happen, shows don’t last as long as Jeopardy has. Oh wait! Maybe Pat Sajak can break the record, once Trebek retires. Until then, Alex you are the champ. Congrats Alex!

REMEMBERING A LEGEND: RUBY DEE DIES AT 91

Actress and community activist Ruby Dee Davis has passed away peacefully in her home in New Rochelle. Ruby and her husband Ossie were an idolized Hollywood couple. Their style, their grace and all that they stood for was powerful.

Ruby’s work can be seen on numerous movies. She was also featured in the Betty and Coretta TV movie (narrator), CSI, There Eyes were Watching God TV movie,  Little Bill (the voice of Alice the Great), Touch by an Angel, Cosby, Roots and many more.

With all of her success Ruby even found time to earn a bachelor’s degree at CUNY‘s Hunter College. Her major was languages, she focused on Spanish and French.

Her resume is pretty remarkable. She was more than just an actress, she walked with her head high with civil rights activists Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. There are not many women that  beam her style and grace. I am sadden about her death, but I know she is now with her husband. Literally, Ruby left i her will for her ashes to be put in the same urn, which is engraved  In this thing together.
