Whenever I hear the name Jay-Z and Will Smith I assume news about a music collaboration will follow. When in usual fashion the superstars have way more up their sleeves. Jay and Will have come together to produce a HBO mini-series about the life of Emmett Till.
Till was brutally murdered in 1955 by racist savages, just because he allegedly whistles at a white woman. Till was only 14 years old. The death of Till still sparks outrage. The historical moment in time has never been told as a mini series. I am glad it is being produced by two highly respected African American celebrities. It looks like HBO is creating a new lane for African American content, first Bessie now the Emmett Till story.
Thank you HBO.

He arrived in our lives as an alien – but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit. He made us laugh. He made us cry. He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most – from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalized on our own streets.”

The music will not be featured in the Lifetime Movie. Aaliyah’s family has already chosen who will play Aaliyah. Singer B.Simone will play Aaliyah.
I think she looks like Aaliyah, but can she act? I won’t judge. I am just so happy the family is doing their own movie. Take that Lifetime and Wendy Williams.
The Aaliyah movie will be ready to be released in theaters in 2015
