So on the morning of January 17, 2015, I set my DVR to record Lifetime’s Whitney. Ijust had to see it and I planned on watching it, but I wanted to record it just in case my 3 year old son decided to have a temper tantrum during the movie I could watch it later. I took the whole day to get myself together so I could see this Angela Bassett directed movie. I just knew it was going to be good girl. I mean Angela Bassett was running this production. She knows way more about making a movie than Wendy Williams does. So the time came for the movie to come on and I sat with my cup of coffee and I watched and watched and damn it I watched some more. Then the movie ended and I wanted to see more. It was that good that I didn’t want it to end.
A little part of me felt super bad that I thought the movie was great, because this was Whitney Houston’s life. I was sitting their enjoying the re-enactments of Whitney and Bobby‘s life. The Whitney movie was filled with love, betrayal, sex, drugs and rock and roll and I loved it. What the hell is wrong with me? Angela Bassett had lots of pressure on her to deliver a great product for many reasons. Some of them being that Lifetime needed a great biopic since Wendy Williams screwed up the Aaliyah movie, also this is Angela’s directorial debut (the Yale graduate would have not been forgiven if she messed this one up), then their the Houston family who did not approve of this production. Angela called Whitney her friend and I believe all that I saw in this movie, because these are things that happened that only a friend would tell another friend.
I enjoyed this movie. The only changes that I would have made would be the title of the movie. I would have called it Whitney and Bobby: A Love Story.
Did you like the movie?
Directed by Angela Bassett Whitney is set to air on January 17, 2014 on the Lifetime Network. After the horrible backlash from the Aaliyah movie, many are wondering if Mrs. Bassett will be able to deliver. Folks no need to question Angela’s delivery on this movie, from the looks of the trailer Angela has crossed all of her t’s and dotted all of her i’s. This movie looks like it is too good to be on Lifetime actually. Whitney is definitely giving a theater worthy performance. America‘s Next Top Model alum Yaya DaCosta is playing the hell out of Whitney. Make sure you see this flick. I think we can forgive Lifetime for that treacherous Aaliyah movie now.
AALIYAH FANS ARE NOT HAVING IT. THE AALIYAH MOVIE HAS BEEN ON FOR 36 MINUTES AND THE RANTS HAVE STARTED.
Despite Aaliyah‘s families approval the show must go on says the Lifetime Network. With the help of Wendy Williams and her production company. Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B movie will air on November 15th. The network released a teaser promo for the movie this week. The teaser features the rookie actress Alexandra Shipp, who will play the beloved Aaliyah. Take a look at the teaser………………………………….
After much controversy, the Lifetime movie The Princess of R&B (The Aaliyah Movie) has an air date. Many have cursed this production and hopes that it will fail. The network was not given the families blessing to produce a film about Aaliyah. So to limit the quality and authenticity of the film, the family has blocked the usage of any of Aaliyah’s music. A movie about a singer, without the singers music seems like a watse of time to me.
According to Wendy Williams one of the executive producer’s, the movie is based on Aaliyah’s Book More Than A Woman. The book is filled with lots of juicy info says Williams. All of the drama in the world can not make a movie great, when there are bad castings and major restrictions put on the project. This movie could make or break all of these actors careers. Let’s see how this is going to go……………….
The Princess of R&B airs on November 15, 2014 at 8pm on Lifetime.

The Aaliyah Biopic is still in production. I know what you are thinking. Shouldn’t they be finished already? Well I am assuming the movie without the music and other restrictions is making the movie a little dry. So they have cast Elise Neal to play Gladys Knight. Gladys Knight? Well apparently Aaliyah’s uncle Barry Hankerson married Gladys back in the 70’s. The married did not last, but the word is that Galdys having ties to Aaliyah helped her career out. I don’t know, to me that is a major stretch. All of these years I never heard the words Gladys Knight and Aaliyah in the same sentence until now. I guess they are running out of ideas. Seems like this story is going to be all over the place.
Do you think they needed to mention Gladys in this film?
